Sex & the HBCU ghetto

Sitting in my unfabulous college dorm room, watching Sex and the City, I couldn't help but fantasize about my wonderful self being a writer living in my quaint little apartment with four fabulous NY friends. I would love to have a Miranda, who knew she was gay, a Charlotte, who did believe that true love really existed, and a Samantha, who I could share great sex stories with. Can you imagine, running around the Manhattan streets at night, and eating at tiny cafe's during the day? Oh, the life I could live.

Another thing about living in NY. The single life. I don't think people go to NY with their dreams and hopes with a lover tagged along. Not saying that my one and only isn't welcome nor invited, but it is a part of that "scene." Club hopping, parties, dinners, random escapades...there's a million people in NYC...who doesn't want to dip their hands into that melting pot? Don't get me wrong, relationships are great: love, no lonely weekends, always something/one to do...yadda yadda. But single in the "Big" city. Think about it, millions of potential first dates, thousands of places to go, sex under city lights...sigh.

On to the fashion of one of my favorite TV shows...

Carrie Bradshaw. The epitome of the fashion obsessed writer that I am. Granted, I'm not a 40 something but when she arrived there...she was a 20 something staring into the big lights and calling it home.

After numerous hours of re-runs then finally getting the seasons, I have noticed the fashion genius behind each character. First, there's Carrie. Her style ranges from uptown to sometimes outlandish to sex kitten all at one time. (sex kitten outfit #1 - the bus billboard dress, naked for Big?). She always has on Italian pumps to match any outfit or bring a bit of flare to it. Second, Miranda, the lawyer. Clearly she's always in a tailored business cut outfit and when it comes to partying she throws a splash of glam and femininity mixed with a very versatile style. Charlotte, the sweet and innocent, Chanel bags with the "sweater wrapped around my neck tank and skirt" preppy appeal. Finally, Samantha, the sex Queen. Her style is all about boasting her sexual prowess through seductive dipping blouses, dresses, and form fitting skirts. She is after all, on the chase.

Sex and the City Pictures, Images and Photos

For any want-to-be fashionista, we should all know that HBO's most popular female show is Sex and the City. We watched it for the outfits, the city life, and of course the sex. We stood in awe of the outfits our favorite characters wore and tried to mimic them while knowing we would we be stared at and questioned. But what's it to a fashion forward diva? Nothing, because fashion is what we breathe and in this ghetto of mine...it's all the sanity I have. Material wise.

A quote for the fashion obsessed :
“I admit it's tempting to wish for the perfect boss - the perfect parent - or the perfect outfit. But maybe the best any of us can do is not quit, play the hand we've been dealt, and accessorize what we've got.

Rihanna - Fashion Foward

So, everyone's been following the Chris Brown & Rihanna abuse story. Everyone has an opinion, everyone has a view or heard a rumor. Has anyone stopped and took a moment to realize how Rihanna still looks like a diva, despite all the bullsh** that's happened over the past month? According to popeater.com photos of Rihanna in Manhattan looking like a true D.I.V.A. with destroyed skinny jeans, stilletos, a tank top, & a crocheted jacket with the fir lining. Let's not forget the sunglasses in the middle of the night. Abused or not, let this be a symbol that women can remain strong and beautiful amidst all the drama life can bring.

Since her ascension to the pop/r&b throne, her
style has taken a turn for the glamorous. Think back to her debut in 2005. I was still in high school and believed her bra and half-shirt paired with fitted (at the hip) "mens" jeans and chuck taylors was the sexiest look on a female. She topped it off with the long blonde weave and the island tanned glitter stomach. The same tomboyish style appeared in her next video, "If It's Loving That You Want" and slowly faded out towards the end of her first two albums. Once we saw her in "Unfaithful" we sat back and was like, D.A.M.N. baby girl has grown up.

Umbrella, (ella ella) was the shock everyone was waiting for. We all knew Ri Ri was gorgeous but seeing it was even better than imagining. She came forth with the long bob hairstyle...
then the jet black hair paired with the dark eye makeup, makes her so edgy and so sexy, im glad she stuck with this look. The hair has become shorter and the fashion. W.O.W. She's sexed it up without losing the "punk" influence.

Take this snapshot for instance...Rihanna (post-CB)

Ri Ri, after a night of semi-clubbing...not chic or glam'd up but still maintaining some of that edge we all love to see her in. Her recent hair choice has been bothering me. The long wave'd curls that somehow relate themselves into her bob...idk. But, it's Ri Ri, I promise to see that hairstyle on one or two people in the near future.

Okay, I'm going to leave you with another "spotting" April 3rd. Ri Ri headed to Barbados...

Check out the $700 Louis V sunglasses. So added to my wishlist.

Introduction to the Socialite

Fashion | What is it to you? Is it your personal sense of style, what kind of clothes you find visually appealing? Or is it couture gowns, high-priced shirts, pants, jackets & shoes paired with lavish accessories?

Well, fashion is simply "what you make it." If you enjoy spending thousands of dollars on name brand items or just hundreds in your local mall, that's your prerogative. Not everyone has the ability to walk down all the fashion avenues of America and Europe and drop their hard earned money at boutiques and salons. The universal view of fashion, designer and consumer alike, is an expression of self. A consistent outfit of jeans and a v-neck t-shirt expresses relaxation versus a pair of stilettos with every outfit which offers the constant presentation of femininity.

Who am I? (That's one secret I'll never tell...lol) Sorry, Gossip Girl moment. I am just another southern city girl with dreams of NYC and LA. My fashion? It's a mixture of the dark and the light. I tend to wear a lot of black and white, which we all know are very basic colors. I mean, they go with every thing. DUH! Occasionally, I throw on the tightest of jeans with an amazingly sexy top and a pair of platform heels. Let's compare my style to a celebrity, maybe you'll understand better. Hmm...Rihanna mixed with Keri Hilson. Wanna relate it to a city, a Brooklyn rockstar with Upper East Side goals. (Erin from the City meets Serena Van der Woodsen). I'm very relaxed a lot of the time, with an emo/dark edge, but able to sex it up when required. I love high fashion, can't necessarily afford it every day, but it is an obsession.

This blog is my opinion and my views on the fashions of today. I take inspiration from magazines and photos but all words printed here are my opinion, along with my ideas that would make a great outfit. Hopefully this blog becomes a success. Fashion is what I love and writing is my life. So, maybe the marriage between the two will be worthwhile.

ENJOY!
